Pre-study:
This is an extensive 5 day course that requires students to do a fair amount of pre-study. We suggest that once students have enrolled, they should spend as much time as possible studying the pre-course package in order to fully grasp the terms and concepts of this course.

- Bilge-pumping systems
- Global and local meteorological effects
- Meteorological instruments and weather information
- The principles for safe navigational watch keeping
- The functions of classification societies
- Basic principles of hydrostatics and related terms
- The concept of initial stability
