MCA Yacht Qualifications & Yacht Manning Scale
We have tried to simplify the MCA yacht qualifications structure for you. The IYT Master of Yachts certificates (MOY) are MCA compliant and allow the holder to legally stand a watch on a yacht commercially and privately operated yachts over 24 meters and up to 200T.

Requirements for Master of Yachts (3000GT)
- 24 months as Watch-keeping Officer with OOW Certificate
- Valid Medical Care Certificate
- Oral Exam Preparation (recommended)
- MCA Oral Examination
Requirements for Master of Yachts (500GT)
- 12 months as Watch-keeping Officer with OOW Certificate
- Navigation, ARPA and Radar Simulator
- Ship Stability
- Business and Law
- Seamanship
- Human Element Leadership & Management (Management Level)
- STCW Medical Care Aboard Ship
- Oral Exam Preparation (recommended)
- MCA Astro Navigation Exam
- MCA Oral Examination
Requirements for Chief Mate 3000GT (Yachts)
- Must hold OOW Certificate
- STCW Advanced Fire Fighting
- Medical First Aid
- IYT Master 200t Unlimited**
Requirements for Officers of the Watch (OOW) Yachts
- 3 Years signed on a crew list
- IYT Master 200t Limited Shore-Based Course Completion Certified
- IYT Master 200t Limited Certificate of Competency
- MCA Survival Module (Yachts) or STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft
- GMDSS Certificate
- Navigation and Radar
- General Ship Knowledge
- Efficient Deckhand Certificate
- Completed Task Book
- Human Element Leadership & Management (Operational Level)
