Professional Yachtmaster Training

The Chief Mate (Yachts less than 3000gt) Certificate of Competency is an endorsement of the Officer of the Watch (Yachts less then 3000gt) Certificate of Competency.

Once you hold the Officer of the Watch ( Yachts less than 3000gt ), you can then apply to the MCA for the endorsement for the Chief Mate (Yachts less than 3000gt) Certificate of Competency. The certificate can be applied for at the same time as the Officer of the Watch (Yachts less than 3000gt).

Qualifying Requirements For Chief Mate (Yachts less than 3000gt)

  • IYT Master of Yachts Limited/ RYA Yachtmaster with commercial endorsement
  • IYT Master of Yachts Unlimited/RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Shorebased
  • Officer of the Watch (Yachts less than 3000gt) Certificate of Competency

Course Length: 5 days
Approvals: MCA

The course provides Masters and Officers with the knowledge, understanding, skills and tools to effectively manage and lead crew aboard. This course is required in order for crew to hold Chief Mate, Master 500/3000 and Y2, Y1 Engineering.
